The Pigskin Club of Washington, Inc., began youth sports recognition with their Annual Awards Dinner in 1938. Since the club's inception the focus on the recognition of youth has been one of the main objectives. In 1978, the club moved to include youth in formal and informal activities of the club. This grass roots component included boys and girls in football activities and attendance at the club's formal black-tie affair. This affair was the youth exposure to the world of etiquette. As the need for additional involvement in the lives of our youth became necessary, the Youth Sports and Life Skills Program was developed as a viable component of the club to include the expansion of grass roots programming such as; sport clinics and life skill sessions. The outline of grass roots activities further widened and opened additional doors, opportunities and resources for youth. As the developmental structure began to be realized, youth have been exposed to Professionals in all fields, had defining field trips to areas away from their daily environments and opportunities to listen and visit with living legends. Today the Pigskin Club of Washington, Inc., Youth Sports and Life Skills Program resonates with the words of our founder, Dr. Charles Fisher, who stated in 1938 the following, " To all of those who believe that physical training and development have a prominent place in the scheme of education."
